Pos Indonesia Introduces e-Parcel Locker Service

State-owned postal firm PT Pos Indonesia officially launched e-POSLocker, a parcel locker service using the latest technology, in cooperation with Sweden-based security solutions provider Gunnebo Security Group.

PT Pos retail and property director Setyo Riyanto said in Bandung on Tuesday that with the online parcel locker service, customers would have more flexibility in terms of time compared to the existing PO-Box parcel locker service.

With the use of the latest technology, customers would be able to receive notifications to their cell phones or other gadgets when their ordered package or mail arrived in the locker, he said, adding that compared to the use of the PO-Box parcel locker service, it was more convenient because the customers no longer needed to check the lockers themselves to find out whether their ordered package had arrived.

“The service is still undergoing a trial in Bandung but later [PT Pos Indonesia] will expand the service to other cities too,” Setyo said on the side lines of the service launch event at Wahana Bakti Pos building in Bandung, West Java.

Because the service is still under trial, he added, PT Pos Indonesia would not charge customers for the 54 lockers available for the new service in the Wahana Bakti Pos building. The entire lockers are dedicated to merchants renting a place in the building.

“We will evaluate [the service] within three months [to decide further development] in Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan. The pricing depends on the usage volume,” Setyo said.

PT Pos Indonesia bought the lockers from Gunnebo, which provides security solutions in bank security, cash handling, secure storage and entrance security. The e-POSLocker service is part of the company’s cash handling business.

Gunnebo Indonesia cash handling business area manager Setiawan Saad said the service had been used by Australia Post and Singapore Post.

“The lockers can be accessed 24 hours a day. It’s very helpful for those who frequently buy online products,” he said.

“With the service, senders and recipients do not need to worry about the package. Once the package is received in the locker, the recipients will get a notification so they can just come and pick them up,” Setyo said, adding that the service was using technology from the US.

Gunnebo Indonesia country manager Hindra Kurniawan added that Gunnebo was very proud to work with PT Pos Indonesia in helping the company to meet its commitment in improving its services for customers.

PT Pos Indonesia said recently that beginning this year, the company would launch a special package service for Indonesian haj pilgrims as part of the company’s expansion amid the decline in the mail delivery industry.

The company has met the senior government officials to discuss the provision of services from Saudi Arabia to Indonesia.

It said it would cooperate with a Saudi company in providing the service.
